Two steps back

Still finding it difficult to make time to paint and finding the results are often iffy, but that is how it goes! I liked the colours of this evening sketch, if not the drawing/tones/much else!

I have been trying to capture something about this lovely valley for ages and maybe this would make a good composition – but the colour didn’t really happen (and has been bleached out even more by the camera flash).

The weather is set to remain fair for a couple more days so hopefully I can produce some more paintings before the end of the month. Off to read about Emil Nolde to get my colour inspiration back …

Better Drawing

Friday, January 9th, 2009

I’ve been painting away this week but as usual nothing is dry enough to scan. However, I’ve been thinking that my drawing skills could do with sharpening up. After spending so much time messing around with paint I think my drawing is getting a bit sloppy and that’s dragging the paintings down. Looking back at some old work from last year the lines are much stronger and compositions better – so I know what I need to do over the next few days!

Looking at pictures created last year:

The wedding picture for my sister has remained the same since the last post – after it dries I’ll decide how much more to add to it as I really don’t want to end up overworking it and spoiling it.

The weather has been really mixed this week, beginning gloriously sunny so that I was able to work on the hill (although my hands did go numb) and ending with the whole town enclosed in mist and no daylight at all – boo … Today there wasn’t even a view out of the window, just pure white mist – without any variations in tone, defying anyone to paint it!
